The Soul Cages - Sting - The Soul Cages (Cassette, Album)

The Soul Cages. Label: A&M Records – Format: Cassette, Album. Country: Europe. Released: /5(14).

 · Sting's third solo album, 'The Soul Cages,' maintains much of the vitality and energy of his other solo work, yet it has a sound that is uniquely its own. The sound has something to do with the album's theme - the death of Sting's father. 'The Soul Cages' begins with a somber, haunting melody that deals with ''Billy'' and his father, the shipbuilder.

The Soul Cage's is a concept album that follows a young sailor through the tracks to the finale featured on the title song. The album's closer is perhaps it's epilogue. The entire concept is inspired by the death of Sting's own father creating an emotional tether to the imagery of the sea which is the backdrop to Billy's journey and adding a poetically symbolic layer to the album/5().

 · The Soul Cages Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine Emboldened by the enthusiastic response to the muted Nothing Like the Sun and reeling from the loss of his parents, Sting constructed The Soul Cages as a hushed mediation on mortality, loss, grief, and father/son relationships (the album is dedicated, in part, to his father; its predecessor was dedicated to his mother)/10(1K).
